I should so be in bed right now! But I was just doing a bit of last minute web stuff and thought I’d come see my “blog.” Mark’s birthday is tomorrow (well, actually, it’s today, but it’s just after midnight, so I still feel like it’s “tomorrow”) and Jason’s is the day after that. So… this will be a short entry as I need to bed and get some rest before wrapping millions of presents tomorrow. (Okay… not millions.)

Anna’s Birthday

March 16, 2009

Well, you can definitely see that I am not great at consistency in blogging.  Oh, well!  Anna’s birthday party seemed to be a good reason to post again.  I just lost a bunch of my blog when I went back and tried to edit, so I’m just going to add some photos and be done.  Anna had a great time at her “puppy party.”  Some pics are of her actual birthday when she opened family presents.  Enjoy!

Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2008

Well, the kids are really geared up for Halloween.  They’ve been watching Halloween episodes on Nickelodeon for the past hour or so.  Wonder Pets, Diego, and now Ni Hao Kai Lan.  I absolutely love the things they say at this age!  Anna, my 2-1/2 year old, when asked what she’d like to see on TV, says, “The scary one!”  This translates to Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween, which IS quite scary to a 2-year-old, I think.  Jason is very proud that he is not scared by it.  He is such a brave one at 5.

Tonight, our neighbors will have a Halloween party before we all go trick-or-treating.  How fun!  I am bringing the Hershey’s Peanut Clusters, though when I got out my ingredients, I was ashamed of myself for having accidentally bought Nestle milk chocolate chips instead of the Hershey’s brand.  Oops!  It will still taste good, but I figured if I was making the recipe from Hersey’s website, I should use their brand.  I had already bought the ingredients ahead of time.  My sister, Kate, was the first to share this recipe with us.  It’s really simple:

  • 1 cup Hershey’s (or if you’re a traitor, use another brand 😉 ) milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup Reese peanut butter chips
  • 2 teaspoons shortening (NOT butter, oil, spray, or any kind of substitution… won’t work)
  • 2 cups of peanuts (I like roasted, salted.)

Melt the first 3 ingredients in the microwave for 1 minute, stir, then continue melting for 15 seconds at a time until completely melted.  Stir in the peanuts, then place in heaping spoonfuls into little candy tins (they look like tiny muffin cups.  I like to use the metallic ones.)  Refrigerate for one hour.

There might be more instructions on the Hershey’s website.  Anyway, they are easy to make and addictive.

I have been trying to perfect my own version of a mocha frappucino.  So far, it always comes out tasting just like a frozen chocolate milk, but I think I could do better.  I’m using regular coffee instead of cappucino as my drink base.  I add milk, whipped cream, crushed ice, and Hershey’s chocolate syrup (yes, the real Hershey’s syrup this time.)  The problem this morning was that I didn’t chill the coffee first.  Next time I believe I will chill it.

I hope everyone has a safe Halloween tonight!  I’ll see if I can get some costume photos up, if I didn’t already.

I love Saturdays!  Today, Jason had a tee ball game, so Mark took him to that while Anna and I drove up north for a Psalm Committee meeting.  I am on a committee that reviews songs and lyrics being submitted by church members for a project to write new hymn settings of all the Psalms.  I also submit music to this group, so a couple of my pieces were sung today, though not the one my sister and I wrote together.  I can’t wait to hear that one!

Well, enjoy your Saturday!

In response to a comment about wanting to see photos, I guess it couldn’t hurt.  I will see what I can find.

Mother’s Day Out

October 15, 2008

The kids went to Mother’s Day Out today.  What a blessing to be able to drop them off and have a few moments to breathe without, “Mommy?”

Lately, Anna has been calling me “Mom.”  She’s only 2-1/2.  Why is she calling me “Mom”?  Isn’t that what they call you when they get in high school… usually with attitude?

It’s funny, because I vaguely remember a time when I used to dread having to go to the grocery store.  Before kids, that is.  Now, grocery shopping is what I do with my kid-free time so that I don’t have to entertain them and push an incredibly heavy shopping cart.  How times change!

When I picked up Anna today at preschool, I finally got a good report!  She has been saying “No” a bit too often and disrespecting the teacher.  She still needs to learn to eat her lunch and keep quiet when it’s time to be quiet, but we’re working on it.  Jason was having a rude awakening when we came back this afternoon to get him.  He hadn’t had much time to sleep and did NOT want to get up.  He was whiny until after tee ball.  Tonight he volunteered to say the prayer for dinner and included a “thanks for the wonderful tee ball game” in the prayer.  So sweet!

I am still working on uploading and printing photos.  I just finished July 2008. Yippee!! I can’t believe I’m this close to catching up.

Tomorrow, the kids and I plan to go to “Mom to Mom” (probably why Anna has started calling me “Mom.”) at our church.  We usually do a video series on wisdom for motherhood, but tomorrow is a breakaway series on cooking for busy people.  We are supposed to bring a dish with the recipe to share, but I am thinking it might not happen for me.  With my back pain, I think I’ll just sit this one out.  I mean, I’ll go and listen, but just not eat the potluck.  Or maybe I can be creative and bring something easy.

Think I’ll get to bed early tonight!

First Entry

October 14, 2008

Welcome to my blog!  I don’t know what has possessed me to start this web journal or whatever it will become, but you could say that there is a bit of “blog fever” going around this area.  I guess this will provide my friends and family the opportunity to be a fly on our wall, if they so desire.

I am sitting here listening to music on my laptop and setting up this blog while I try to edit photos online.  It’s a long story that I might just get into sometime, but I am printing photos from January to April of 2008.  Just a few months ago I was stuck on April of 2006, so I have really been catching up, but I still feel pretty behind.  It has been fun to catch up, though… going through photos of when my babies were so much smaller.

I have been going through some pretty bad back pain lately.  Had to go to the doctor last week because I was beginning to lose sleep and have trouble picking up my daughter.  I am now on some pretty decent pain management medication, but am going to need to get chiropractic help.

Gotta go watch “Heroes” pretty soon, so I guess I’ll wrap this up.
